Bios organization is interested in fine arts but not in their strict expected form. As with all our productions, we wish to span interest in fine arts by crossing them with other forms of art or by inviting the audience to create themselves.
-Cross art exhbitions
In association with the ART/ European Animation Center we created the first animation marathon that took place in Romantso in 2015. The event included projection of animation films, a painting exhibition and workshops of digital sculpture and arts.
The event explored the boundaries of animation and visual arts, while painting remained always on the spotlight. The use of new media helps new creatives to express -from traditional techniques of 2d animation to experimenting iconoclasting attempts to mix, the results are extremely interesting as moving or static images.
- Academy/ partnerships
Bios organization has a long and strong relationship with the Athens School of Fine Arts and together we have produced exhilarating events and presented the extraordinary work of new and existing artists, and given great opportunities to the academy’s students to showcase their work.
At the National Meeting of Contemporary art, (Art- Athina, 2009), students and artists from Central Saint Martins in London joined forces with Athens School of Fine Arts in Athens and Bios organization to present An Illustrated History of Longing, a peculiar and astounding performance that combined music, theater and fine arts.
Artits of international acclaim as well as students of the Athens School of Fine arts offered their artworks free for Ekpliksi! , the annual exhibition of Artza and the Non Profit Organization “Klimaka” that supports the homeless. The exhibition had great success during its realisation in Romantso.
We have hosted a great many photography and design exhibitions film and video screenings and also experimented with cross art experiences with music, video, projections and more.
- Photography
In 2005’s exhibition entitled “You lied to me”, the reporter and director Petros Birbilis presented photographs from every small – and not flattering at all- aspect of everyday life.
The exhibition began with an opening note from author and art critic Edward Lucy Smith (Art Today, Art Terms, Erotica: The Fine Art of Sex) while Konstantinos Vita performed live the music that he composed inspired by the exhibition.
An sensational exhibition took place in Bios in 2009- during Swatch MTV Playground digital photographs were projected on the walls, astounding djs and beatoxers performed live, while visitors could watch Secret Wars creating a large graffiti on the rooftop with a view to Acropolis
We wish to highlight and clarify different kind of arts that we meet in our everyday urban life but are not clearly categorized in visual arts, like street art and graffiti. In order to also inform the public about these misunderstood arts, we created the Public Art Festival: Polymorphia in 2014, in cooperation with Benaki Museum and Greek Film Archive and hosted in Romantso.
Civil Disobedience (2020) was a collaborative exhibition that became a festival over the years- Romantso hosted the exhibition and parallel events like poetry, dance performance and video art projections supporting gender equity.
- Films/ Video/Screenings
-Cinemateque
The cozy arthouse screening room of Bios. Pireos84 has hosted special screenings, avant garde tributes while it became a favorite spot for movie lovers.
In 2020 the Cinemateque will be operating again against all odds?
- Sssh! Silent Movies
Sssh! Silent Movies was a unique cinephile experience that took place in Bios.Pireos84’s rooftop with the best view to Acropolis. The event combined the projection of selected films accompanied by an eclectic DJ Set – the audience could choose at any point if they would listen to the film or the music that the DJ had selected for them.
