EN GR

An urban cultural platform in the centre of Athens.

BIOS ORGANISATION

BIOS is an independent grassroots cultural organisation based in Athens, dedicated to exploring urban culture through contemporary art, creative practice, education, and civic engagement. For more than two decades, it has supported emerging artists, creatives, and cultural practitioners while fostering new forms of cultural expression that reflect the complexities, contradictions, and possibilities of contemporary urban life. Operating at the intersection of culture, creativity, and the city, BIOS develops platforms for experimentation, dialogue, and collaboration through exhibitions, performances, residencies, talks, festivals, and interdisciplinary projects. Its mission is not only to present culture, but to create the conditions in which new ideas, artistic practices, and creative communities can emerge and thrive.
Today, BIOS operates through four interconnected venues across the centre of Athens: BIOS Pireos 84, Romantso, Latraac, and PLEX. Each space has a distinct identity and focus, serving different audiences and creative communities, yet together they form a city-scale cultural ecosystem embedded within the urban fabric of Athens. From artistic production, cultural entrepreneurship, and education to music, public programmes, social exchange, and neighbourhood regeneration, the four venues support different stages of the creative process while remaining connected through a shared vision. By linking artists, audiences, local communities, and international networks, BIOS creates pathways for ideas, people, and opportunities to circulate across the city. Collectively, these spaces demonstrate how independent cultural initiatives can contribute to a more vibrant, inclusive, and imaginative urban future.
