International Video Poetry Festival #13
The 13th International Videopoetry Festival (IVPF), one of the leading international gatherings for visual poetry and spoken word, returns to Athens on September 11 and 12, 2026.
The Institute for Experimental Arts founded the International Video Poetry Festival in 2011, introducing the art of video poetry to the Athenian audience for the first time. It fostered an international collaborative environment among artists from the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Through Videopoetry and Video Art screening zones, workshops, lectures, and the live performance day, the International Videopoetry Festival creates an open public space for all forms of contemporary poetry.
WHAT IS VIDEOPOETRY?
Videopoetry is a contemporary art form in which poetic text meets the moving image, creating a new audiovisual experience. It can take various experimental forms—such as animation, collage, cinematic film poetry, and video dance—combining words, images, sounds, and movement into a unified artistic work.

1. The Human Factor: Empathy vs. Artificial Intelligence in Art, Abdullah Harun İlhan (director, Turkey)
It is aimed at storytellers, visual artists, and non-commercial filmmakers, exploring human connection and emotional depth in visual storytelling, drawing upon the creator's own experimental films and travels to 75 countries. The session includes short screenings, a group brainstorming exercise on translating emotion into visual language, and a discussion on human empathy versus artificial intelligence in art creation.
2. Spoken word performance techniques and practices – Woodzy (poet, UK)
World-renowned spoken word artist Woodzy shares his performance techniques and secrets. Woodzy is an award-winning British spoken word artist and "Flo" poet, a TEDx speaker, and a BRIT School alumnus, known for his relatable themes and witty wordplay.
3. The Body Is a Poem: An Exploration of Words Through Movement, Angie Flanagan (Choreographer, UK)
Starting with improvisation practices rooted in Butoh, participants discover the body as a tool for expression. Together, we gather words and give them physical form through body sculpting and group tableaux. These living images are transferred onto paper as spontaneous poems, which we complete by reciting them as we move from one tableau to the next.
